QWaLC Board member Trevor Meldrum and Cape York Indigenous Ranger Neville Bowen will soon travel from Cape York to Nadi, Fiji, to attend the 2026 International Conference on Landcare and Sustainable Agriculture in the Indo-Pacific and the Landcare Training Program from 6–10 July.

Their participation brings an important Cape York voice to an international gathering focused on sustainable agriculture, community-led conservation and practical land management solutions across the region. Trevor, a proud born and bred Cape York Peninsula Indigenous local, brings deep cultural knowledge, leadership experience and a strong commitment to building respectful partnerships between Landcare and First Nations communities. He also serves in multiple governance positions, including Chair of the Queensland Conservation Council, Deputy Chair of Queensland Water and Land Carers, and First Nations Liaison for the National Landcare Network.

Alongside him, Neville Bowen, a Cape York Indigenous Ranger and Kalkajaka Traditional Owner, will share valuable on-ground experience in caring for Country, managing tropical landscapes and responding to the challenges faced by communities working at the frontline of environmental stewardship.

Together, Trevor and Neville will carry with them the knowledge, stories and strength of Cape York Landcare. Their journey to Fiji is not only an opportunity to learn from others across the Indo-Pacific, but also to showcase the leadership, resilience and cultural wisdom that First Nations land managers bring to caring for land and water.
