Celebrating Reconciliation Grants
Celebrating Reconciliation Grants provide funding for local communities to host events that encourage participation in National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June). Are you an Indigenous corporation (incorporated) who has been impacted by the Queensland floods? You may be eligible for support through the ILSC Disaster Recovery Response Grants. There have been changes to the administration of not-for-profit organisations that self-assess as income tax exempt. These changes mean non-charitable not-for-profits (NFPs) with an active Australian Business Number (ABN) are required to lodge an annual NFP self-review return in order to self-assess as eligible for income tax exemption. Green Army Gone
Well the Green Army is no more. On the 19th December the Commonwealth Government decided to achieve savings of $224.7 million over four years from 2016‑17 by terminating the Green Army program. 2014 National Landcare Awards Winners
A big congratulations to the 2014 National Landcare Awards winners, particularly Russel Fry from Queensland. Russel won the Australian Government Individual Landcarer. Russell often has to deal with the misconception that Landcare is essentially about planting trees. His strong belief is that Landcare is about the sustainable use of natural resources to build sustainable farms, supporting communities and the environment. QWaLC welcomes two new board members, Geoff Elliot representing Queensland Murray Darling and Michelle Hanrahan from the Fitzroy region. Geoff and Michelle have been appointed to fill casual vacancies in their regions. Insurance Update
Thanks to the ongoing support of the Department of Natural Resources and Mines we have once again been able to renew our three insurance policies with Aon Insurance. By offering this coverage to Natural Resource Management group we are able to ensure the great work of thousands of volunteers across Queensland can continue.
